Week May 16-20, Dolphin Practice Swim Meet
Round Rock Dolphin Practice Swim Meet, by Round Rock Dolphins, whole thing, May 20.
Today was the day I attempted to dive in front of everybody, and I knew it was going to be a fail. I'm a new Round Rock Dolphin and I know I'm new. I can't dive, can't really do breaststroke or butterfly. Well I can, but I'm not comfortable with either stroke yet. Fortunately, I can do freestyle and backstroke. And I'm new, so I'm still learning and no one expects me to know everything.
For today's 'meet', I did a 25 freestyle and a 25 backstroke. That means I didn't have to any flip turns or more things that could make me look clueless. But as I said, I'm learning, so I'm happy the way I did today. I wasn't even nervous for the freestyle. I've had really bad allergies lately so I knew that was a handicap for freestyle because I would have trouble breathing. But I did fine, despite a bad dive, with a time of 17:57. I think that's pretty good for my first time! Everybody's been saying I was going to be really good at backstroke so I actually was nervous. The 3 main reasons I like backstroke the best are.....

- No diving! You start in the pool :)
- I'm really good at the kicking. It's fun :)
- You don't have to worry about coming up for air since you're on your back :)
Week May 16-20, 7th Grade Award Ceremony
7th Grade Award Ceremony by Chisholm Trail, happened May 20, whole thing.
By default, I tend to avoid award ceremonies. Just the way I am. You get enough of those in elementary school and you quickly learn there's the kids getting awards and the kids clapping. And not doing much else. But if everybody got an award, then the awards wouldn't be so great, would they? Not as much to me. What would be cool though if everybody got a different, unique award they actually deserve. Or would it? I know some people don't really care if they get perfect attendance or all A's. But some do and it's depressing if they leave award-less. It makes me feel bad, especially if I have an award. But everybody has a different talent. It reminds me of that creepy Harrison Bergeon movie we watched in Texas History. If someone was different, in any way, they were either "handicapped" or give things to help them be smarter so everyone would be the same. Just something to think about.

Week May 16-20 " The Second Summer of the Sisterhood"
"The Second Summer of the Sisterhood" by Ann Brashares, May 14-16, whole book.
This is the sequel of the "Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants" (obviously). Unfortunately, it's nowhere near as heart-tugging, and emotional as the 1st book, this sequel is pretty good. I really like Bee's story in this one. Here's what's happening this time around....
Random Note: Have you noticed that Ann Brashares' (the author) last name is like Bra shares. So if you read it that way, it's like saying Ann is a bra-sharer. Weird and random!

- Bee is now fat, no-longer playing soccer, and her hair is skunky brown. She goes to Alabama to find the truth about her mother's suicide, via grandmother she hasn't seen in forever.*SPOILER ALERT*Happily, she finds herself again as the book goes on, bit by bit.
- Lena is boring as ever, still obsessed with Kostos. I say, get over him already! Anyway, they broke up over the year but he comes and they get back together but he abruptly goes to Greece because an old girlfriends says she is "pregnant". Waah waah waah, get over it, he's not that great.
- Carmen's mother gets involved with a co-worker and Carmen jealously breaks them up in a nasty way.
- Tibby takes a film class and tries to impress 2 people who aren't worthy friends with a mean film about her mother.

"The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants", May 9-May 13
"The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants" by Ann Brashares. Read May 9-12, Whole book.
Oh my gosh, this book is sooo sad! Tibby's storyline is just so sadddd, what with Bailey and all. Personally, I like Tibby's storyline the best, then Carmen, then Bridget, and finally Lena. Lena's story was just kind of boring to me. Tibby's made me feel something!
Basically, this book is about 4 very different girls who are somehow best friends that find a pair of jeans that fits all of them (somehow). They make a vow to keep in touch over the summer and send each other the pants. You get to see what each girl is up to:soccer, romance, family problems, and befriending a little girl who dies of cancer are the basic ideas to me.
I recommend this book and its 3 sequels to, once again, pretty much everybody! It has a bit of everything!

"Dictionary.Com", May 9-May 13.
"Dictionary.Com" by the World Wide Web. Read every time I need vocab.
Here it is. The sequel you have all been waiting for. The next in my series of "Dictionaries, Thesauruses, and Encylodpedias".
"Dictionary.Com" has a lot of perks that real Webster dictionaries don't have. There's the Word of the Day, a What's New section, and you can search words instead of flipping page after page. It might even have more words than Webster dictionaries! But, with more words comes more pointless words. I mean seriously? Who uses some of these ridiculous words? Why even make them up? I'll try to answer that next time on "DTE"!
