Olivia Birdshall, 3 hours over 1/9-1/11, pages 1-257(whole book)
This book was good. Why? It's one of those books that you're not really sure why it's good, it just is. Parts of it would get annoying or repetive but not often. But even though this is a realistic fiction book, I can't imagine this happening in real life. The brother becoming a hungover alcoholic after the divorce, the dad bringing back a Peruvian woman, the best friend putting up with the main character. Those parts just didn't seem real, although I could see it happening with the author's style of writing.
Basically it was about a girl whose parents are in love and married-until one day they're not. She's not sure how to deal with it since divorce is unknown in her communtity. As the family falls apart, she gets together (finally) with her brother's best friend. It all gets confusing pretty quickly for Mia.
As I said, I really liked the author's writing, even if the story wasn't the best ever. Her chapters were pretty short and clever titles, such as 'love means never having to eat your pepperoni'. I didn't really like the title that much though- it's a little misleading. It's kind of explained but the book was not about a girl coming close to the life she's wanted then watching it slip away and the girl finding she's happy with what she has. That's what I thought at least, or at least something similar. But I guess you could say it's about a girl who had more or less the life she wanted then lost it. Who knows what the auther meant? Still, it is a good book in my opinion.
