"Restoring Harmony" by Joelle Anderson. Pages 1-236, Feb. 23-25
This book takes place in the future in the year 2047. Oil has run out, or is in the handes of the 'big governments'. The economy has completely fallen apart and the country has fallen into anarchy, with each town/county having its own rules, etc. Molly, the narrator, lives in Canada on a island that stills has good food and lots of farms. People there live fine still but are cut off from the rest of the world, except for unreliable CyberSpeak, email, and solar phones. Molly's mom is pregnant and is led to believe that her mom passed away. She gets a little depressed and is soon in a unhealthy condition. And the island doctor died so there's no one to give her medical help except the midwife. So Molly goes to get her granddad to come live with them. Plus he's a doctor so it's a win-win.
Molly soon finds the real world is full of liars and cheats and the town her grandparents live in has a mafia. As it turned out, her grandma was alive! The book progresses fastly and makes you think about our bad economy and dwindling source of oil. From where I left off, Molly, her grandparents, and grandparents' neighbors' niece and nephew are trying to escape back to Canada and away from the mafia. This book is a good read.
