Week 21-25 "Story of a Girl"

"Story of a Girl" by Sara Zarr. Read whole book, Feb.18-20

There are some books where you can feel the main character's pain. It's kind of like in Greek tragedy which I learned in theater. The main character messed up but gets a much worse punishment. Since it's 1st person, you get to understand Deanna, the main character, better than if it is was not 1st person. It made me feel that what she did wasn't as bad as everybody in the book thought it was. Actually, never mind. What Deanna did (have a relationship with a 17 year old when she was 13 and then get caught by her dad in the back of the 17 year old's car) was bad but  understood why she did it. It wasn't because she was a slut or anything like that. The 17 year old was like the creepy serial killer. He complimented her, and got her to trust him before pressuring her so he could get what he wanted.
I could barely put this book down because reading the book just made you want more of it. It was really good but kind of hard to read. Not because it was hard to physically understand but because of what Deanna was going through. In the end though, her dad forgives her for what she did. I would have put a spoiler alert for you right then, but it was obvious because if her dad was going to forgive her. If he hadn't, the book would have beem downright depressing.
